Epic Canadiana

Epic Canadiana #2 is a go!!!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away when I was still in Toronto, I was fortunate to see a screening of Lost Heroes. The documentary was a fascinating and entertaining look at the history of Canadian superhero comics – notably the Canadian “whites.” I remember coming out of the screening and talking exhaustively about the perceived lack of Canadian superheroes, how that tied into national identity, and my own belief that superheroes were – more often than not – defined by their relationship with a super-villain.

And then I came across Epic Canadiana #1, a wonderful anthology from Cloudscape Comics in Vancouver that introduced a whole new universe of Canadian superheroes. If you haven’t read the book I highly recommend getting it. While reading the anthology, I found myself revisiting the same thoughts and ideas that I had soon after watching Lost Heroes, and vowed to start working on my own Canadian superhero project.

As luck would have it, a second Epic Canadiana anthology was on the cards. I pitched the germs of my idea to the editorial board and was lucky enough to be accepted as one of the contributors to the new book: Epic Canadiana #2. I was paired up with the incredibly talented and generous Edison Yan, and together we created the story “Sticks & Stones” for the new anthology.

We just reached 100% of our Kickstarter target and the book is almost ready to come out. I’ll post more about our story once it’s available, and provide links to the original pitch documents and the script. I’m looking forward to seeing how our story meshes into the existing universe, and also to catching up on some of the characters created in the first Anthology. So come back same bat time, same bat channel in a couple of weeks for more on how you can buy this book, and some behind the scenes process for how we created our story for the anthology.
